Ashtanga Style Led Primary

This form of yoga is intensely physical and athletic. Ashtanga yogis practice a prescribed set of asanas, channel energy through the body using bandhas (locks), and concentrate on singular points using drishti (gaze) in asanas.

Mysore with the Yogi/Ashtanga Style

The Mysore style of yoga asana practice is a particular way of teaching yoga within the Ashtanga Yoga tradition as taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in the southern Indian city of Mysore. The class is not "led" as a whole, but rather all instruction is one-on-one within the group class setting. Students practice their own portion of the Ashtanga sequence of asanas at their own pace. The teacher assists each student individually by giving physical adjustments & verbal instruction.

Students must know primary practice.

Rocket

Rocket is combined with and restructured from the Primary and Intermediate Series of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, as well as key postures from the 3rd and 4th advanced series of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. 

All Levels Vinyasa

A flowing, dynamic form of yoga that focusing on connecting movement with breath. Vinyasa classes cultivate balance, flexibility, strength, and endurance.

This form of yoga is intensely physical and athletic. Ashtanga yogis practice a prescribed set of asanas, channel energy through the body using bandhas (locks), and concentrate on singular points using drishti (gaze) in asanas.

The Mysore program is built upon a strong foundation of trust between the teacher and student. Students need to be accepted to the program by the teacher. ​

Students in the Mysore program are expected to practice at the Shala a minimum of three times per week. ​

Please check yourself in upon arrival by punching your card in the black box each time you come to practice. Drop-in payments can be left in the front of the black box. Each member of the Heart N Soul Yoga Studio community is entrusted to manage their own account and pay Shala fees as they become due at the beginning of the new session, without notice or supervision. This allows the instructor to focus her time and energy on you and your practice rather than devoting excessive resources to administration.

Please maintain personal cleanliness and bring your own yoga mat and towel to practice daily. A hot shower before practice helps to increase flexibility and mental focus. Refrain from wearing any fragrances when coming to the Shala, as strong smells can make practice and breathing difficult for others. Dress in comfortable and modest clothes, being respectful of others and the Shala.

Please do not eat before practice. Ideally your digestive system should be as empty as possible. Refrain from eating any food at least 2-4 hours prior. Early morning practice is best after emptying bowel and bladder. Refrain from drinking water during practice, unless otherwise advised.

No water bottles, cell phones, or other accessories are allowed in the practice space. Please keep the floors clear of anything but your mat and towel. All personal belongings should be stored in designated cubbies during practice.

Do not ask for postures. Postures are given as/when deemed appropriate by the teacher.

Isabella Gutfreund
 

Isabella Gutfreund has taught yoga for over ten years, and has over 6,000 hours of yoga teaching experience. She started her career as a Kundalini teacher, and is certified by the Kundalini Research Institute, though she now provides instruction on Ashtanga Style, Rocket Vinyasa and Power Yoga. 


Dedicated to her students, Isabella emphasizes safety and proper instruction techniques, as well as more personalized one-on-one attention.
She is gratified to see her students benefit from their yoga practices by breathing well, lowering their stress levels, and acquiring a state of relaxation.


Isabella believes that it is helpful to have an open mind and no particular expectations when beginning your practice.
